January’s Sprouts Nature Notes

January is a month of beginnings and intentions. We are so happy to be starting the second half of our year!

Although we have had some of our coldest days and our first “snow day” and two-hour delay related to weather, we are already seeing signs of Spring around the corner thanks to our observation skills. We’ve noticed the sun shining, the birds chirping, and new plants emerging. We found baby grass under leaves and saw some crocuses pop up in the schoolyard. Some of our friends even attempted to make their own plants by putting sticks and dirt into a pot.

We’ve been finding lots of ice and even found some pink ice due either to chalk being left in a pot of water or the paint our friends have made from chalk. We made cakes from mud and felt the cold creek water. We blasted off on stump rocket ships. A friend made a leaf basket inspired by a book they got from the library! Our sprouts are so creative and we love to see the different ways that this comes out.

We hope that everyone’s year is off to a great start!
